The Big Idea – Being Counted Matters

The Big Idea – Being Counted Matters

Big Idea

Percent proportions show the part of a group that can or cannot participate. In many communities, voter restrictions keep certain groups from having a voice. God calls us to justice and fairness so everyone’s voice can be heard.

Math + Faith Example

In a district of 1,000 eligible voters:

  • Group A: 900 allowed to vote → 900/1,000 = 90%
  • Group B: 650 allowed to vote → 650/1,000 = 65%

Difference = 25% fewer voters in Group B

Percent proportions reveal when fairness is not being practiced.

Scripture Connections

  • Proverbs 31:9 (KJV): “Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.”
  • Amos 5:24 (KJV): “But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.”
