The Big Idea – Being Transformed

The Big Idea – Being Transformed

Big Idea

Transformations in math include translations (slides), rotations (turns), reflections (flips), and dilations (resizing). These are the same movements used in cultural art and patterns—like quilts, mosaics, beadwork, or tile designs. God gives people creativity to express beauty through order, repetition, and design.

Math + Faith Example

  • A quilt block may use a reflection to create symmetry.
  • A mosaic may use rotations to repeat designs around a circle.
  • A bead pattern may use translations to slide a design across a row.

Transformations make designs both mathematical and artistic.

Scripture Connections

  • Exodus 31:3 (KJV): “And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”
  • Colossians 3:23 (KJV): “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
