The Big Idea – Living by Faith, Not Odds

Big Idea

Probability is the study of chances—how likely something is to happen. In health, some populations face higher risks of illness because they have less access to care. Math helps us see these probabilities and work for fairness in health. God cares about healing and justice for all people.

Math + Faith Example

In a city of 1,000 people:

  • Group A: 100 out of 500 people face high blood pressure → Probability = 100 ÷ 500 = 20%
  • Group B: 200 out of 500 people face high blood pressure → Probability = 200 ÷ 500 = 40%

Group B has twice the probability of facing this health issue.

Scripture Connections

  • Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV): “For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord.”
  • 3 John 1:2 (KJV): “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
