The Big Idea – Truth Beyond Averages

Big Idea

Statistics like mean (average), median (middle value), and mode (most frequent value) help us understand data. In schools, demographics show whether student populations are represented fairly. God values every person and wants all groups to be seen and included.

Math + Faith Example

School population by racial/ethnic groups (in %):

  • Group A: 40%
  • Group B: 35%
  • Group C: 15%
  • Group D: 10%
  • Mean = (40 + 35 + 15 + 10) ÷ 4 = 25%
  • Median = (15 + 35) ÷ 2 = 25%
  • Mode = 40% (highest group)

This shows that Group A has the highest representation, while Groups C and D may be underrepresented.

Scripture Connections

  • Galatians 3:28 (KJV): “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
  • Romans 12:4–5 (KJV): “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.”
