Supporting African American Students in Des Moines Classrooms

In Des Moines, Iowa, African American students are an important part of the school community. To ensure every student thrives, teachers and families must work together to create classrooms where these learners feel represented, affirmed, and supported.

Quarantine Racism Educational Services partners with Des Moines educators and families to provide professional development and family engagement resources designed to:

  • Build strong, positive racial teacher–student relationships.
  • Recognize and reduce bias in the classroom.
  • Ensure African American students feel seen, valued, and academically supported.

Together, we can strengthen equity and build inclusive classrooms across Des Moines Public Schools and the broader community.
